A Sling Chair Inspired by Clouds

Osaka-born, Montreal-based Mitz Takahashi is a furniture and product designer whose latest design is the Kumo “雲” chair, which means ‘clouds’ in Japanese. It’s made with a matte black powder coated steel frame that supports a comfy pillow that’s slung between two wooden dowels.

The sling chair idea explores how to balance a comfortable place to sit that’s also aesthetically pleasing. The hard angles of the steel frame add to the relaxed look of the stuffed heavy duty canvas cushion, which stays in place with the maple dowels that house hidden joints.
