Stammtisch Round by Alfredo Häberli

Stammtisch Round is a minimalist design created by Zürich-based designer Alfredo Häberli for Quodes. Born in Buenos Aires, Häberli moved to Switzerland where he graduated at the Höhere Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich with a distinction in Industrial Design. He characterizes his work as a unison between tradition and innovation, with expressive pieces that invoke emotion in the user.

Stammtisch Round is a clear representation of Häberli’s sensitivity toward thoughtful and striking designs. A subtle detail is revealed at the edge of the tabletop where the edges are not simply vertical, but their angles move outwards at both ends, while moving slightly inwards on the sides. The angles shift so slightly that they can be easily missed at first glance.

Although the tabletop is perfectly round, the shifting nature of the edge creates an illusion to make to the table seem oval. The legs are constructed of light wood and laser-cut bent sheet steel, and connect to the table top like a handgrip to a knife. The design is currently available in round, oval, and rectangular table tops.
