Gonçalo Campos has designed a series of clever porcelain platters called Tecido that looks like a napkin or tablecloth draped over dishware.

Campos worked hard to get this process just right – finding a way to give substance and rigidity to a piece of fabric so that they could fix the shape and create a mold. Working with Vista Alegre, a Portuguese Porcelain and Crystal company founded back in 1824, Campos created the perfect elegant shape that could definitely be mistaken for fabric.
Each piece is a mystery – makes you wonder what was initially underneath the mold before it was cast. Pretty enough to be used for special occasions but still feel casual enough for everyday gatherings.

Wow! What a unique product… i love the fact that they offer more than one shape. I think I might pick one or two of these up for our dining room. :)

It is refreshing to witness something that is not a geometric shape. When did things get so boring that all we can make is rectangles and circles. I had the opportunity to have a phone call the other day with this object that I could wrap my whole hand around and it cupped over my ear and down to my mouth. At one point, I even cradled it on my shoulder for a minute and did not get a cramp. It was fun. Not everything has to fit in our pocket or stack.
