The HP Designer Matchup Challenge: New York Fashion Week Reveal

In the spirit of reality shows like Project Runway, HP and I challenged five designers and five bloggers — and their readers! — to come up with a creation to unveil during New York Fashion Week 2012. In just two short weeks, blog readers voted on the design materials as well as the final HP Touchsmart/Adobe Photoshop CS6 sketches and the designers got to work making five very different, exciting products that were revealed during a NYFW event.

You voted that fashion designer Mila Hermanovski should make a leather gown inspired by Bauhaus movement (sketch above). Check out the final gown that Mila made with your help:

From sketch to reality

Check out the other team’s amazing creations:

Wallpaper in three colorways by Emily Henderson and Jeanine Hays of AphroChic

“Rebrew” lighting concept by Seth Grizzle and Jon Junker of graypants and Megan Reardon from NotMartha. Jon and Seth win the prize for best last names ever.

Glo Planter made of reclaimed/recycled materials by Goil Amornvivat and Tom Morbitzer of Tug Studio and Capree Kimball of Curbly

All together now!

We produced a video, too!

We had a great time in New York – we attended a very swanky Project Runway Anniversary party at Lord & Taylor, arriving by limo.

Limo rides! Reality stars! Tim Gunn! A dress made of soda can tabs!

We also had an HP Designer Matchup reveal party at the Mondrian Soho’s Penthouse. Talk about beautiful views…

While at the events, we had a lot of fun interacting with the new HP products like the X2 hybrid PC and their new computer bags designed by Project Runway All Stars winner Mondo Guerra. I’m always enthusiastic to get my hands on new technology – makes me excited for the future.

Want to see more fun stuff from the events? You can follow all of us along in our journey using the #HPDesignerMatchup hashtag on Twitter or Instagram. Also, I put up a few photo albums on Facebook – take a peek.

This program is a collaboration with HP. All of the participants in the program received an HP TouchSmart PC with Adobe Photoshop CS6 and a trip to NYC for New York Fashion Week. We had a great time – thanks to the HP team for supporting great design!
