USA Character Approved

Maybe you’ve seen USA Network’s tagline, “Characters Welcome.” USA Network’s Character Approved movement celebrates people who are changing the face of American culture by being trailblazers in their field. Yay positivity!

This Tuesday, March 8th at 11/10C, USA Network will be honoring a new series of 12 “characters” in various fields. This year’s Design honoree is Emily Pilloton, creator of Project H Design, a nonprofit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of design through social good. Emily talks big but she also acts: she and her team of designers and builders work tirelessly to spread the word that design can change the world.

Along with Emily, USA will honor Walter Hood for architecture, Vik Muniz for Art, Prabal Gurung for fashion, Davis Guggenheim for film, Grant Achatz for food, Janelle Monáe for music, Blake Mycoskie for social good, Naveen Selvadurai and Dennis Crowley for technology, Lily Rabe for theater, and Nicole Krausse for writing.

Here’s Emily talking about helping society through practical design:

Also, I wanted to use this opportunity to mention that USA has invited me to contribute to the Design section of the Character Approved blog. I am honored to give my Character Approved seal to a new designer or product each week. Come see what I find!
