A Budget-Friendly, Modest House Makes The Most of its Space

Located in Kakanui, New Zealand, The Whittaker Cube is a budget-friendly residence designed by Dravitzki & Brown that spans two floors, each just 8 meters by 8 meters (approx. 26 feet by 26 feet). Its small, seaside location meant maximizing views, while also providing privacy from the neighbors and the street.

The exterior’s simple look is created using cedar planks, which act as a rain screen and hide the flashing underneath.

While the house is modest in size, the minimalist interior maintains an open and spacious feel and features a flipped floor plan. Downstairs houses the home’s three bedrooms while the upstairs is the main living area. That way, everyone can enjoy the view.
