Last week, our friends to the north (that’s Canada, for those of you not in the U.S., or if you’re an American who’s bad at geography) released a new postage stamp to call public attention to the massive number of homeless pets in the country and promote saving lives through pet adoption. The stamps in the Adopt a Pet collection from Canada Post feature photographs of former shelter animals (including two adorable pups) and a doodle of each pet’s imagined “dream home.”
The stamp set comes in a collector’s booklet that relates the individual stories of each of the featured pets. While the animals are caged as pictured on the stamp sheet, pulling off a stamp to affix to an envelope releases the pet from the cage — a clever and heartwarming metaphor for what we do through animal adoption. It makes me want to go to Canada and mail a lot of letters.
