Conceptual German artist Simon Freund explores the idea of contemporary consumerism and turns it into art with his series of chairs called shopping bags. Using a simple black frame chair, Freund then wraps them with shopping bags, like Aldi, COS, Acne Studios, and Primark, to form the seats and backrests.
The six chairs reflect how in today’s society we have a desire to buy things and most of the time, they’re things we really don’t need. This work shows Freund’s idea of consumerism and makes it accessible to the masses.
