Berkeley Dachshund House

Out on one of our daily walks, Miles and I recently stumbled upon what we referred to as “The Dachshund House.” Right over the Oakland/Berkeley border is this charming home adorned with several constructed dachshunds. It’s truly a visual treat for all those who have the fortune to pass by.

Constructed from reclaimed helium tanks, metal casters, steel barrels, trash cans, and several other unidentifiable pieces, I would say these dachshund “lawn ornaments” (for lack of a better word) are about a hundred parts charm to ten parts metal. I am particularly fond of the air-gauge eyes and the painted smiles!

Not wanting to leave a single part of their front yard dachshund free, the residents of The Dachshund House have also created an adorable steel cut dachshund above their driveway and one more on their gate. What a pleasant thing to come home to every day.

I’m dying to find out the story behind The Dachshund house and meet the quirky folks who put this together. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to cross their paths yet. I’ll definitely be following up with this! But for now, I truly appreciate any cool neighbor who keeps Berkeley weird. And by weird I mean, completely awesome.
