This bike is reinventing how children learn to ride a bike and helping the earth, one recycled bike at a time.
Wishbone Design Studio created the Wishbone Bike Recycled Edition (RE), which is highly adjustable and grows with a child. It easily converts from a tricycle to small bike to a bigger bike.
The Wishbone Bike Recycled Edition (RE) is also made from 100% post-consumer recycled residential nylon carpet – kinda amazing! Used carpet was collected from homeowners across the US, then shaved and shredded. Glass fiber is added to the carpet for strength, then molded into millions of little pellets to be molded again into the bike frame.
Each bike diverts 7.5 lbs of used carpet away from landfills, as well as saves 7.5 gallons of oil that would’ve been used in making new plastics.
What do you think about this design?

Hi! No one could ever imagine that used carpets can be recycled for such a purpose.. Great one!! & even looking at above Images I was not able to spot where actually the carpet pieces are used..

If they’re instructed in cycling properly, small children need a bicycle without pedals for about 30 minutes, one hour at the most. Thereafter, they need pedals to have any fun, or travel anywhere. Otherwise, they can get about more easily on foot. Consequently, using resources to make something that is neither fun nor practical isn’t meaningful from an environmental perspective.
It doesn’t matter what you recycle it from, if it isn’t a proper bicycle, it won’t replace the use of fossil fuels.

Rod: it sounds like your cup is 3/4 empty. My 2 year old is has been having plenty of fun pushing on her pedal-free bike for several months now and has discussed extensively with me about how much she does not care about how impractical it is vs walking to where she wants to go. She does share your concern about resource utilization, seems as though we are running a little short on carpet. So why waste the unwanted stuff on something like… teaching a 2 year old how to ride. I think the product is BRILLIANT! BTW, I have opted NOT to potty train my toddler at gunpoint.
