CANOPY Opens its Third Shared Workspace Location in San Francisco

Co-working spaces have been popping up everywhere over the last few years as long commutes and working alone at home can grow tiresome. It’s fairly easy to find budget-friendly or middle-of-the-road workspaces, but there hasn’t been too many higher-end options for people who desire an elevated shared workspace experience. Just last year, Yves Behar, Amir Mortazavi, and Steve Mohebi launched CANOPY for accomplished professionals and entrepreneurs in San Francisco’s Jackson Square neighborhood, helping to fill the gap. Now, the trio has opened their third location – this time in San Francisco’s Financial District – that exclusively offers private offices in a calm, modern space that’s beautifully designed.

CANOPY Financial District houses 32 private offices that accommodate anywhere from one to 10 people within a five-story building. Spanning 10,000 square feet, the interior includes a store on the ground floor that’s open to the public with a curated array of office, travel, and lifestyle products by Monocle Magazine, as well as products made by CANOPY members.

CANOPY Financial District was designed by Yves and Amir, with Amir’s M-PROJECTS building the space out, using a palette of silver, blue, and earthy tones that reflect the city’s infamous fog meeting the coastal water. The historic building’s details were incorporated into the design, as were elements of the surrounding neighborhood’s charm.

In keeping with the history, they used Douglas Fir for the wooden floors, a material often used 100 years ago when the building was built. The same wood is used on some of the walls and for the kitchen cabinets evoking a warm but light feeling. Brick walls and the rough ceilings were saved and painted in a light grey adding a sense of calm which is enhanced by the slate blue glaze on the walls.

The offices are rounded out with modern furnishings from Herman Miller, including Yves Behar’s Sayl Chairs, Brian Alexander’s Renew Sit-to-Stand Tables, Charles and Ray Eames Chairs, and Chadwick Modular Seating. Additional designs used were Smile Lounge Chairs by Studio Giancarlo Valle, Roly Poly chairs by Faye Toogood, and Midi armchairs by imperfettolab, adding to the eclectic scheme. To help keep privacy issues at bay, high-tech Modernus glass partitions with sound masking encloses each office while letting natural light pass through. Plants from locals Flora Grubb Gardens, along with Leon and George, bring a bit of the outdoors in helping to ground the space.

Overall, CANOPY Financial District eschews extraneous details to keep distractions to a minimum so work can get done. Additional perks that CANOPY provides are: expert tech support, private and secure Wi-Fi, NexKey System for each office, 24-hour access, and sound-controlled environments.
