If you’ve followed Design Milk for awhile now, you’re probably aware that we have much appreciation for Pantone and always look forward to announcing the Pantone Color of the Year every December. So, we were pretty thrilled to hear about their latest collaboration. The color experts just partnered with skate brand Globe on the release of two limited edition box sets that include five skate decks, each dipped in a Pantone Color of the Year from the past 20 years. The 10 colors included in the box sets were carefully considered by the Globe design team, who like many creatives, look to Pantone for their expertise.
Each deck, which is a limited edition of 200, is 8.25″ wide x 32″ tall and made from Canadian maple. They are paint dipped in an official Pantone Color of the Year and then engraved with the color name and Pantone number on the top. Then they are laser-etched with information about the color and collaboration, as well as the individualized number of the edition on each top.
The 1st box set, which recently launched, features Color of the Year picks from 2011 – 2020, which results in a vivid color palette:
- 2020 Classic Blue PANTONE 19-4052
- 2019 Living Coral PANTONE 16-1546
- 2018 Ultra Violet PANTONE 18-3838
- 2017 Greenery PANTONE 15-0343
- 2012 Tangerine Tango PANTONE 17-1463
The 2nd box set, which is set to be released on November 6th, offers a warmer, more muted tone palette with Color of the Year selections from 2000 – 2010:
- 2010 Turquoise PANTONE 15-5519
- 2009 Mimosa PANTONE 14-0848
- 2006 Sand Dollar PANTONE 13-1106
- 2002 True Red PANTONE 19-1664
- 2000 Cerulean Blue PANTONE 15-4020
Each set runs US$425 with box set 2 launching November 6th on globebrand.com.
