In Milan, Poltrona Frau introduced the GranTorino upholstery collection designed by Jean-Marie Massaud. Inspired by the world of saddlery, this modular sofa includes a combination of fabric with sleek, hand-cut, hand-shaped Saddle Leather.
The leather molds the lines and structure of the seat, including the upper part of the backrest as well as the armrests and sides. My favorite aspect of this series is the leather cover the folds over and is fastened with steel rivets. The large box-like structure actually opens up and acts as storage, and functions as a table or oversized armrest when closed.
It’s available in two and three-seater sofas, which can easily be joined up and hooked together with the metal component. There is also a swivel chair with a four-spoke base and a 360°-rotation mechanism.
