Jeremiah Brent Brings Architectural Influences to Loloi Rugs

Jeremiah Brent’s distinct approach to design is what drew rug and textile brand Loloi to partner with the interior designer on Rhythms of Craft, a recently launched collection of rugs and pillows. Jeremiah Brent × Loloi features more than 35 rugs with an architectural point of view and pillows that reference embroidered linens of the past.

Loloi principal Cyrus Loloi says his company has long admired Brent’s style, which Loloi describes as “grand and elegant” but with a “warmth and history”—a combination that felt like “a natural fit” for the brand. The brand also wanted to introduce something original to an oversaturated market, appreciating how Brent can reinterpret architecture, art, and history in a way that feels “fresh and relevant to how people live today.”

References to Mies van der Rohe, ancient Rome, and Gothic stonework prevail in Brent’s designs. “I was particularly interested in the language of architecture and how something structural can be equally impactful when it becomes soft and tactile,” he says. “I pulled from the lines, proportions, and repetition and let them become something new through the making.”

A true creative partnership, the collection combines Brent’s perspective with Loloi’s expertise in rug design, materials, and construction. Sculptural silhouettes, carved details, and geometric patterns are realized through a range of techniques, including hand-tufted wool, hand-loomed blends, hand-woven jute, hand-knotted rugs, and power-loomed designs for high-traffic areas.

Interestingly, both Brent and Loloi cite Obelisk as their favorite pattern of the line. “The notched corners, inspired by Art Deco architecture, give what might otherwise be a simple wool rug an entirely different character,” Loloi says.

“The Obelisk has made its way into more than one room [in our home],” Brent admits. “A notched edge has always been one of my favorite details to incorporate in stone, countertops, and door frames. So I love being able to bring that same detail onto the floor. It’s a simple addition but really impacts the tone of a room.”
