Karman, an Italian company specializing in lighting, has presented their newest 2014 collection based on the themes of magic, entertainment, and fairy tale. Centered around these themes, the lighting collection is meant to strike our senses with new shapes and materials, evoking a sense of wonder and storytelling.
Sirio are sets of hexagonal shaped lamps made in bent metal with small openings that fill up with light. The darts of brightness are much like bright stars in the dark of night.
Vega are just like the Sirio lamps but triangular in shape. Both designs are by Studio Bizzarri.
Wow! is a whimsical lamp that’s just like a magician’s top hat where rabbits come out of. The rabbit adds a striking touch. Designed by Matteo Ugolini.
Atelier lamps are focused on taking a textile back to its original tactile and raw nature. Each lamp is unique, and has a metal structure which is thin, yet strong. Designed by Matteo Ugolini.
The Settenani collection of lamps is based on a fairytale we all know – Snow White and the 7 Dwarves. Each of the 7 lamps is made of concrete, and some are printed with a fabric pattern. Designed by Matteo Ugolini.
Erbavoglio, designed by Matteo Ugolini, is a lamp that’s made of a magical and mysterious “grass” that’s created by Karman. The lamp embodies the intensity of spring, and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Porcamiseria is a darling accessory lamp with a little piglet coming out from the wall with its chubby front. It’s a reminder from designer Matteo Ugolini that there’s a child within all of us, and offers a fun lamp to help enlighten our adventures.
Pietro lamp has two independent parts linked by a rope, representing the two sides of the same coin. One lamp is the base, while the other is a counterweight, showing how the action of one creates a reaction in the other. The lamps are made of a smooth, white ceramic reminiscent of stones. Via Rizzo 7 is a suspended lamp that is inspired by Ugolini’s memories of his childhood where he grew up. The little parrot and bird that roost on top of the lamp are also from the designer’s childhood.
Dharma are small, suspension lamps meant for indoors and outdoors, designed by Edmondo Testaguzza. They went through a special process to create a chromatic irregularity and softness, giving it a unique look. Dharma is made of concrete and utilizes LED lighting in the outdoor versions.
Birdy, designed by Studio Bizzarri, retains a touch of lightness through its suspended nature. It is a contemporary aviary, and through its simple metal structure, represents a longing for independence and wish of experience. The two little birds rest on top, bringing the metaphor full circle.
Metra takes after measuring tapes of carpenters, and are custom cut, modular lighting with pieces that can be adjusted as you please. It’s flexible and utilizes LED lighting sources. Designed by Luca De Bona and Dario De Meo.
