New Works from Paper Cut Pioneer Charles Clary

Charles Clary may ring a bell because we’ve featured him before on Design Milk, when he received a grant a few years back. We were fascinated with his sculptural, topographic installations and still are.

His most recent work features tangled, paper cut installations incorporated into floral wallpaper. The layered paper examines the idea of viral colonies, concentric wallpapers, and land formations. “These strange landmasses contaminate and infect the surfaces they inhabit transforming the space into something suitable for their gestation.” Much like these viruses, the sculptures dot the wall, playfully interrupting the landscape and creating a fun interaction between the viewer and how they see the world. Microbial infections are reimagined into something less scary, and a little more inviting.

After surviving a quarter life crisis, Nanette went from working in healthcare canadian meds to pursuing her loves of design, food and writing. During the day she works in social media marketing, by night she writes for Design Milk. You can find more of her work at nanettewong.com.
