Australian design company One Another who, together with a group of women from Lucknow in Northern India, create a collection founded on traditional embroidery yet modernized for today’s interiors.
Created by husband-and-wife team Rick and Annette Carter, the collection is not only beautiful and well-designed but it helps support a group of women and their families in India, keeping them from poverty. The seed for One Another was planted in 2008, when Rick and Annette travelled to India with not-for-profit organization Opportunity International Australia. It was there that they not only fell in love with the country, but witnessed its dark side of poverty.
The Summer 2013/14 Collection features three series: Botanical, Oceanic and Dance of India. Each collection is made up of pillows, artwork, and scarves.
Botanical fuses leafy x-ray prints with hits of acid green and dirty pink embroidery. The inky swirls and reflections of the Oceanic series are embroidered with rhythmic currents and waves. Dance of India is a celebration of color and movement with swirling sarees embroidered with the street maps of Indian city’s Chennai and Lucknow.
