Every other week we’re inviting one of the Design Milk team to share five personal favorites – an opportunity for each of us to reveal the sort of designs we use and appreciate in our own lives from a more personal perspective. Senior Editor Kelly Beall returns this week for our Take 5 series…
1. OEM Care
I’ll admit that what first caught my attention about OEM was their smooth minimal packaging, which feels as good to the touch as it looks to the eyes. Plenty of times products look great, but fail to impress – not the case here. I’ve had the chance to try the entirety of OEM’s care line and love every product. Nourishing Lip Balm, Restoring Ointment, Soothing Cream, Hand Sanitizer and a Rehydrating Drink work together to help keep you feeling your best. What’s more, the OEM Care Fund commits 1% of all sales to support mental health, elderly care and equality, as well as Black, Latinx and Indigenous communities.
2. Sigil’s Aqua Viridi
It’s been quite some time since I’ve had a favorite fragrance to wear, most are either too sweet or too “happy” smelling to my nose. I prefer musky, earthy. Aqua Viridi by Sigil smells of marine accords and damp ferns, with key notes of Petitgrain, blue cypress, khella and seaweed. (Their other scents are lovely, you can even order a sampler.)
3. Native Union Belt Cable XL (USB-A to Lightning)
I’ve been using the same Cosmos colored Native Union Belt Cable XL for several years. It hardly shows any signs of wear, thanks to reinforced nylon braiding, and gives me 10-feet of length – ideal for when I need to charge my phone while using it at the same time.
4. Hydros Glass Slim Pitcher
Like so many of you, I struggle to consume enough water each day. However, having an attractive carafe nearby has a funny effect on upping my intake. Hydros’ eco-friendly Glass Slim Pitcher quickly runs your water through a filter that uses 100% coconut shell carbon in a BPA-free casing, and only needs replacing every 40 gallons. You can choose to recycle them afterwards through their partnership with TerraCycle.
5. Fable Pets’ Dog Crate
Especially ideal for small spaces, this piece is essentially a dog crate and side table all in one. I love its bent wood shape and that it’s available with either a clear acrylic or metal gate that can be closed and secured or stored like a garage door when open. And my pup would have to say she agrees, and enjoys how cozy it is!
