Born in the country of Georgia, Vako Darjania now resides Iowa City, Iowa, creating work under his Vako Design label. The latest is the Vanity Chair, which made its debut at IDS Toronto 2019 as part of the Studio North section. The chair gives nod to both the Art Deco era and the Memphis Modern movement with its bold, asymmetrical form and vibrant color palette comprising shades of fuchsia and purple. The layered geometric volumes are covered in velvet and paired with a wooden base and accent resulting in a sculptural yet functional piece of furniture.
