Last week, Dyson launched the AM02 Tower and AM03 Pedestal floor standing fans, two floor fans in their bladeless Air Multiplier fan line, which launched late last year. The Air Multiplier technology replaces blades and grilles with loop amplifiers and draws air in at the base through a mixed flow impeller. This new line of floor fans offer oscillation like traditional fans, but can also be adjusted up and down to any height.
From someone who has always hated the chore of cleaning a traditional fan, I have to say that the biggest benefit of my Air Multiplier fan is that it’s so easy to clean.

I saw some of these fans at Meijer’s the other day. The’re way over priced at about $300 for the smaller model. Also, the idea that these fans don’t need need to be cleaned can not be true. The air intake is at the base of the fan, which is where the dust will collect. These fans also seem flimsy and are constructed from cheap plastic. This thing is a novelty and I don’t see how it provides any improvement over a standard fan other than it’s aesthetic appeal. Another thing I can’t understand is the price. The only way I would buy this for $300 is if I had some need to show people how much money I have and how willing I am to waist it.

No one stated that these fans don’t need to be cleaned. They are just easier to clean than a traditional fan.

@J-Man Brody
you mean “waste” and not “waist”
but i have to agree with the “overpriced” comment. I think Dyson products look very good on catalogs and ad photos; they ARE interesting and innovative pieces of engineering; but when it comes to quality… they just feel cheap. It really makes me sad that all this good design goes to waste because of poor manufacturing. Dyson is like the Apple of air manipulation: expensive, well designed, ahead of its time and functional. Sadly they really fail with the haptic element; something Apple takes into consideration, polishing every little detail, even packaging. I would love to see Dyson start using better materials that feel less plasticky and more recyclable. Hell, If my aunt had a vacuum cleaner with wood finishing and a glass container in the 80s, why can’t we have have something that feels solid and is also environmentally friendly in 2010? (specially for those prices!!)
