Jeffrey Docherty

Jeff Docherty is a graphic designer based in New York who was selected by Print Magazine as one of their New Visual Artists Under 30. He’s updated his website with some new work! I really like his use of geometric shapes, line drawings, and experimental typography in his design.

Flock Mobile

I really like that this mobile resembles birds but isn’t actually shaped like birds. I’m kind of sick of bird mobiles. Wait…did I just say that?

Badajoz House, Spain, by Murado and Elvira

Rounded corners play a significant role in this hose. The fireplace and sunrise where two items high on the list of the designers. Sliding doors made of wooden panels, act as shutters and protective skin. The use of color punches through the house is only used as an accent on certain points, like the bathroom and kitchen.

Guest Post

I did a guest spot over on the Hostess with the Mostess blog rounding up some of my favorite dining tables. Check it out: Dining Table Round-up (Let’s Eat!)
Historical Materialism

I just love the name of this company. Plus, the one lamp looks like a Devo hat!

I’ve talked about how cool Rollout is before, and I just love their series of artist-designed wallpapers:

Craft Design Technology Desk Set

The Craft Design Technology (CDT) desk set includes everything needed for a cohesive workspace, from pens and pencils to glue stick and file box. CDT is all about function and design with this comprehensive set. The scissors and stapler are especially noteworthy.
What a great gift for a designer’s first big job! Unfortunately, it’s currently unavailable on the DWR website.
I Like This Table

Chair of the Rings

Yes, that is the real name of this chair.
Sleepypod Ugliest Pet Bed Giveaway

We’re so excited to have a brand new contest for our pet-loving readers - we’re giving away a Sleepypod!
To enter:
Send a photo of your pet’s ugly, gross, disgusting, hideous, gnarly pet bed OR the pathetic place your pet currently uses as a bed. Both cat and dog owners are welcome to enter. We want to see the yuckiest!
Photos should be emailed to info@design-milk.com with subject line “Sleepypod Contest”. Please include your name and contact information, the type of pet you have and your pet’s name.
Design Milk, along with Moderncat and Mod-Dog will narrow the entries down to a select few. Readers of all three blogs will then vote on Design Milk to determine the First and Second Place winners. The winner will be announced in a future post on Design Milk.
Please note: Sleepypods are designed for pets 15 lbs and under. We apologize, but large dogs are excluded from the contest due to this restriction. Maybe we will have another contest just for large dogs. ![]()

Prize:
First Place winner: Your choice of one Sleepypod or Sleepypod mini in the color you prefer (examples pictured above; subject to availability).
The Second Place winner will receive a print courtesy of Mod-Dog (examples below):

Sleepypod is a pet carrier with a removable top so that it can easily be used as a pet bed (view demo). The goals of Sleepypod are functionality and comfort: they are designed to reduce stress on your pet when on-the-go. Learn more at http://sleepypod.com.
Rules:
Contest begins on October 1, 2008 and ends on October 31, 2008. Voting will then occur. The winner will be announced no later than November 30th, 2008.
One entry per pet. If you have 5 pets per household that meet the criteria, then you can enter 5 times (once for each pet).
Once you submit your photo, you agree that it may be used by Design Milk, Sleepypod, Moderncat, and Mod-Dog for promotional purposes.

Special thanks to Sleepypod, Moderncat, and Mod-Dog for making this exciting contest happen!

Didn’t CS3 just come out? Jeez. My software is now officially out of date. Print has a review of CS4 from a designer’s perspective up on their website.
