Marginal Notes 2012 is a collection of prototypes by the Stockholm-based design firm Note Design Studio. The collection is in collaboration with Lerch Träinredningar and was presented this week, which is Stockholm Design Week. The group of designers examined the sketches that had been made in the margins of their notebooks and upon a second look realized they needed to be made.

Furniture Factory is a pine wood furniture collection by Dutch designer Lucas Maassen and his three sons. Maassen employs his sons to paint each piece of handmade furniture. As per their contact, they each get paid 1 Euro for every piece they complete. They are limited to three hours of work per week, which is all that is allowed under Dutch laws. In order to meet the production time frames, they must paint rapidly which results in the look of each one-of-a-kind piece.
We’ve all seen bookshelves, clocks and coatracks made of words. However, this one by Istanbul-based designer Mebrure Oral, the words actually help you organize your titles. Books you’ve read go on the “has been read” side and the new ones on the “will be read” side. This is a great way to make sure none of the books you haven’t read yet get lost in a sea of old books. This shelving system from German design firm DLF PRODUCTDESIGN consists of steel and MDF sections that fit together without tools. The shelves and storage boxes are connected using simple geometric brackets, allowing you to build the shelving system of your dreams.
Sai is a modular wall-mounted bookshelf by Jiyoung Seo made of modular silicone blocks. You can wedge items in between the blocks, move them around, or even pin notes to them.

Cuatro Cuatros, a design studio based in Valencia, Spain, recently released its new Angles collection of two shelves (30º and 180º) , a carpet (0°), and a vase. It’s based on the study of optical illusions, and what the pieces look like depends on the point of view from which one’s observing them.
0º (above) is a carpet that has lines composed of alternating black and white geometric shapes that cause the lines to look crooked, even though they are parallel.
