Creature Comforts by Jenny Walsh

Fragments of Nature

Lex Pott brings together industrial design and organic natural elements in these tables.

The wood processing industry works according to a fixed pattern: a tree is stripped of its branches and divided into geometric forms.  Lex Pott combined these industrial, geometric forms with the original, organic structure of a tree in a series of items of furniture. Where the legs of his table meet its top, the form of a tree trunk can easily be seen. The contours are also directly derived from the tree trunk. The pieces of furniture are reproducible, yet remain a unique fragment of the natural world.

Time to Design New Talent Award 2009

Time to Design is an opportunity for young designers to showcase their talents under the best possible conditions. It is a collaboration between The National Workshops for Arts and Crafts, Normann Copenhagen and Link UP.

The 2009 New Talent Award winner was the design duo Wai & Lanzavecchia with their collection: “SPAZIALE SERIES: New expressions of skin and structure”. It’s basically fabric stretched over wood, but the forms are kind of mind blowing.

The Emotion Lab

The Inside Urban Collection was inspired by the urban landscape. The Emotion Lab has adopted the functional urban objects and reimagined them for more personal use.
