The Budak system starts growing from single piece and can be formed into seating or shelving.

Sudoku Bookshelves

They’re not exactly functional for playing live sudoku, but they are certainly beautiful.

Assemblage
I learned about DO through Sub-Studio, and went a-browsin’ on their site.

What did I find? But this lovely bookshelf called “Assemblage”, with this unfortunately small photo and no larger or detailed pictures! Anyone know where I can get additional photos of this gem?
EDIT: Thank you Sylvie!

Neverending

The Neverending bookcase is a project by Luca Nichetto, of the Hook Box fame. I’m not sure how usable this is, but I like the scribbly nature and free-flowing design.
Nerd Stairs

Check out these cool bookshelf stairs seen over at Core77 via AT.

Cell Shelf

I’ve talked about Unto This Last before and I really love their cell shelf - I just stumbled up on it while surfing around their website.
Huting & De Hoop

This website came into my inbox and I was so excited to see some really innovative new designs. Huting and de Hoop have taken some interesting risks in design, and come up with a few really unique pieces. I especially like the bookshelf.
Quad

I can really see this in a large industrial space, such as a loft.
“Quad is a flexible system of storage, it evolves with your needs and changes of form according to your desires. The system Quad combines a very precise minimal design with a smoothness and one feminine elegance. Each piece starts with a single piece of metal which is precisely cut, bent, and faced with a high impact powder coat. Bookcases, night table, pouf, bathroom column, coffee table…Quad adapts to your needs. Design by Dom Trapp.”

Bo Concept Sideboard

Actually, it wasn’t the sideboard that caught my attention so much as the shelves. They’re really cool and remind me of boomerangs.
Sloom & Slordig

This is the coolest thing I have seen lately. This is a great way to sum up the week.

Spell Shelf

The Spell Shelf: it spells “shelf”.

David Ngo

Did you know that David Ngo went to MIT for aeronautics and space engineering? Then he went to Stanford for a Masters in Aero engineering? AND he likes Spoon? Ok, my point is we are dealing with a genius here, people. Someone just give him a full-time design job! Or even a movie-making deal.
Maximizing Your Surroundings

You don’t have to spend $32472388956856 on furniture for it to be cool. Check out this post from Thomas Wold and this installation he did. His instructions don’t seem to difficult…it’s just a matter of spending the time to create and design your custom piece.

Collapsing Bookshelf

Interesting bookshelf - looks like it’s collapsing into itself.
