I’m very excited to be co-hosting an event with BoConcept in their Philadelphia location on February 16, 2011 from 7-9 PM. Danish-born Morten Georgsen who has worked on innumerable BoConcept designs since 1992 is making a special US visit to talk about his design inspiration and process along with global design trends.
If you are in the Philadelphia area, please join us for an evening of design chat, Q&A, and enjoy a sampling of appetizers and Duvel’s distinctive Golden Strong Ale. All guests in attendance will get a BoConcept gift bag and be entered for a chance to win an iconic Imola chair in a fabric/leather of their choice.
Space for the event is limited so RSVP today to Philadelphia@BoConcept-USA.com. Hope to see you there!

Last week Susan Serra, CKD, CAPS, author of thekitchendesigner.org and scandinaviankitchens.com shared some fantastic kitchen trends (um, movable burners, anyone?) from the 2011 LivingKitchen Show in Cologne, Germany. But what about the “Living” part of “LivingKitchen”? Here are some highlights from the Living section of the show:

I’m headed once again to the Altitude Design Summit to speak this year about balancing work and social media. The event is in Salt Lake City from January 19-22 and if you are an aspiring design or lifestyle blogger or a designer, retailer, manufacturer, or even a PR firm looking to connect with bloggers it’s a great event to attend (there’s still time to register!). There’s lot to learn and an amazing speaker lineup, plus the opportunity to canoodle with some of your favorite writers. Since I just unloaded every cent I own into a brand new house, I couldn’t be more thrilled to have received sponsorship to attend the event from The Kaleidoscope Partnership, the premier global social media agency for the home furnishings and design industries.

Design Milk has a new headquarters! In other words, Mr. Design Milk and I bought a house. We are so excited!
It’s a mid-century modern ranch (what else?!) and you’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the coming months. We’re currently brainstorming lots of grand plans of renovation, designing, decorating, and living and how we can share it all with you.

DesCours is a free, public, 10-day architecture and art event now in its 4th year. Held the second week of December in New Orleans, the event (coordinated by AIA New Orleans) invites internationally renowned architects and artists to create 14 architecture installations within “hidden” locations in the heart of New Orleans, including private courtyards, rooftops, abandoned buildings and walkways, all locations normally unseen, inaccessible or unused by the public.
DesCours provides a platform for experimentation within the architectural field, showcasing architecture installations that use new materials, methods, technology and interactivity. The event presents an opportunity for viewing contemporary design within a historic setting by way of juxtaposition, thereby exposing the elegance achieved in the careful articulation of contrasting old and new. On a local scale, DesCours highlights the culturally rich fabric of New Orleans as a great backdrop for forward-thinking structural innovations that nod towards the future of architectural possibilities.
I hope that those of you located in or around New Orleans will be able to check out the event (or even participate!). Find out more at DesCours.us.

Being in the local Philadelphia area, I had already planned to attend many of the amazing DesignPhiladelphia events over the past 2 weeks, but Corian invited me to participate in a few that were not already on my list — a “Dialogues on Design” talk and the launch of their Carte Blanche exhibition in the Philadelphia Corian Design Studio.
I was thrilled to add another fun event to my list and get the chance to speak with designer Todd Bracher of Todd Bracher Studio. Get this — Todd used to head up Tom Dixon’s London-based design studio and was recently appointed Creative Director of the global luxury brand Georg Jensen. He’s a big deal. How could I pass that up along with a lovely evening hanging out with some of my favorite other design bloggers*.
