Matt Fajkus Architecture designed the Main Stay House in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood of Austin, Texas with flexibility in mind. The structure is scaled back to eliminate extraneous details while still presenting an intriguing facade.
The entryway is hidden from view adding a sense of privacy from the street. A concrete pathway leads visitors to it.
The design was thoughtfully planned to deal with the brutal temperatures of central Texas through orientation, double glazed windows, a robust framing method, and advanced insulation.
The back of the house is open to the outdoors with floor-to-ceiling, sliding glass doors disappearing, helping to blur the indoor/outdoor separation.
The open living space extends to the patio area around the pool extending the usable square footage.
