BIDD Shelf by Kittipoom Songsiri

BIDD Shelf is a minimalist design created by Thailand-based designer Kittipoom Songsiri. The shelf is constructed of solid oak, and was a solution to the common problem of not being able to place books on an open shelf without the use of bookends.

While other shelves may be used for storing small decorative items, the designer wanted to create an alternative to those simple shelves by preserving a minimal style but combine the expression of craftsmanship with functionality. The shelf legs are skewed so that two of the legs form a wall on either side to serve as bookends.

The skewed legs also create a unique oblique aesthetic when viewed upon from the front or side. The legs create platforms for the row of shelves, with each leg slightly curving toward the surface of the shelf in order to create a more uniform design.
