Designer Robby Cuthbert’s Contour Coffee Table and Contour Lamp are not only functional products, they’re sculptural works of art made of bamboo and steel cable.
As its name suggests, the table is full of curves, specifically S-curves that never actually touch, but are held together by a unique way of wiring steel cable. The steel cable and bamboo explore the role of tension and opposing forces as a way of creating a stable system. Two years in the making, Cuthbert developed its wiring pattern as a senior in college and has been experimenting every since.
The Contour Lamp, the less expensive counterpart of the Contour Table, embodies the same interplay between tension and stability. Its central S-curve is a pared down version of the S-curve in the coffee table and ties the two products together. Like the table, the lamp is also made of bamboo.

I love this table, but not the lamp. It’s very unique and reminds me of bridge architecture.
