This week, I didn’t add any prints to our Society6 curated art collection, The Design Milk Dairy. Instead, I’ve chosen to share a brand new collection just launched by Society6 called 50 and 50.
Curated by Dan Cassaro, the project pairs an artist with a US state. The artist must illustrate that state’s motto. I love this idea! Here are some of my faves:

Minnesota by Erik Anthony Hamline

New Jersey by Maayan Pearl – How could I not have New Jersey!?
Which one is your favorite? Tell me in the comments and maybe you will see some of these end up in The Design Milk Dairy. How would you illustrate your state’s motto?
In an ongoing effort to support independent artists from around the world, Design Milk is proud to partner with Society6 to offer The Design Milk Dairy, a special collection of Society6 artists’ work curated by Design Milk and our readers. Proceeds from the The Design Milk Dairy help us bring Design Milk to you every day.

Same comment left on Apartment Therapy:
Going to agree that the Texas one leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
I find the image offensive and ignorant. Perhaps the ambiguity of its message should have been considered more deeply by the designer, or, assuming ignorance based on the sole fact that it was designed in the first place, by whomever decided to approve the print and sell the damn thing – and, no, not the “intent”, but what exactly is this putting across? That all of that stealing of land and killing off of Indians was done with love? That violence leads to less-than-threes? That it’s okay to dilute an incredibly complex history of the interaction between varied and complex peoples to childish sterotypes because, well, hearts?
Fail.

If you only have negative things to say about someone else’s art than don’t say anything at all or better yet go to hell.
