This past year, we were able to cover even more design trade shows and art/design events than ever before thanks to some supportive sponsors and adventurous writers.

Reclaim NYC Charity Exhibit and Auction for Sandy Relief

The NYC design community comes together to help raise money to help those affected by Superstorm Sandy in an exhibition and charity auction called Reclaim NYC. Designers created furniture and decor from materials reclaimed or salvaged after the storm and of pieces inspired by the flooding.

MINI Goes To Santa Claus (And So Did I!)

MINI Goes To Santa Claus (And So Did I!)

MINI's latest campaign "NOT NORMAL" launched in October 2012 (or as they call it, Motor-Tober) and their latest mission was so far away from normal that it landed them (and me!) in the Arctic Circle with one goal - to set a Guinness World Records by bringing the most number of wishes to none other than Santa Claus himself in a project called MINI Goes To Santa Claus.

Herbarium Taste: An Educational Food Design Project by Valentina Raffaelli

Being that we are what we eat, trained architect and interior designer Valentina Raffaelli developed a project that aims to share the nutritional and health benefits of certain foods. The project, Herbarium taste, includes technical drawings with facts of these foods in hopes of educating people in a simplified, easy-to-understand way.

Electrolux Design Lab 2012 - The Winner!

Electrolux Design Lab 2012 - The Winner!

You've seen the final designs and now it's time to go in-depth with the winner of Electrolux Design Lab 2012. The Aeroball design was interesting based on the description but hearing Polish designer Jan Ankiersztajn talk about it, made the product that much more fascinating. Not only did he win €5000, he also gets a much-coveted, six-month paid internship with Electrolux that will no doubt provide him with invaluable knowledge for the future.

London Design Festival 2012: Tent London

London Design Festival 2012: Tent London

Tent London is always one of my favorite shows at London Design Festival and this year might just have taken the top spot. It was fresh, bright and full of young talent. Here are a few of my favorite things...

London Design Festival 2012: X3

London Design Festival 2012: X3

Possibly the most exciting, and certainly the most immediate installation at the London Design Festival was X3 at Super Brands London, by London-based branding and graphic design studio Creative Research and Development.

London Design Festival 2012: Brompton Design District

London Design Festival 2012: Brompton Design District

Brompton Design District boasts a thriving community of independent creative businesses who come together for events like London Design Festival and offer some of the grass roots events that the festival wouldn't be complete without.

London Design Festival 2012: Designers in Residence at designjunction

London Design Festival 2012: Designers in Residence at designjunction

One of the highlights of designjunction was the Designers in Residence stand. Designers in Residence is a Northumbria University scheme for graduates that provides workspace, equipment and mentoring to selected alumni of the BA(hons) 3D Design course there. Graduates use the program to develop their professional practice before fully going it alone - and get the opportunity to exhibit at places like designjunction.

London Design Festival 2012: 100% Design Emerging Brands

London Design Festival 2012: 100% Design Emerging Brands

A small section of 100% Design was dedicated to Emerging Brands. Here are my top five...

Live From Marimekko...

Live From Marimekko...

Happy 1st birthday, NYC Marimekko Flagship store! I had a blast celebrating the event with the wonderful NYC store's staff and DJ Mario, and some chilled caffeinated beverages by illy issimo (much-needed after a few hours seated right next to a DJ!).

London Design Festival 2012: Dementia Music Box by Chloe Meineck

London Design Festival 2012: Dementia Music Box by Chloe Meineck

Chloe Meineck spent two years conducting research into the positive effect familiar music can have for those with dementia - listening to music from certain periods of their lives can help trigger even their most inaccessible memories. She was driven to act on her findings and so created this gorgeous music box.

The Electrolux Design Lab began in 2003 as an annual competition for all students of industrial design to develop future household appliance ideas. Celebrating their 10th year, Electrolux Design Lab asked the students to design concepts that reflect more of a sensory experience and that they did.

London Design Festival 2012: 100% Design Interiors

London Design Festival 2012: 100% Design Interiors

All eyes were on 100% Design at this year's London Design Festival. Under new ownership and with a new director, the hype had begun months previously and continued right up to the moment we entered the rather spectacular entrance, designed by London agency Shaw + Skirm. In its 18th year, this predominantly trade show seems to have found its feet again. Here are our top picks from the Interiors Section.
