The Reykjavik EDITION, located in Iceland’s capital, was designed in partnership with local architecture firm, T.ark, and New York-based studio, Roman and Williams, with guidance of Ian Schrager Company. The property maintains the brand’s firm approach to sophistication and style while subtly capturing the spirit of Reykjavik.
The shou sugi ban charred timber facade mixed with blackened steel frames reference Iceland’s dramatic lava landscape. The building, along with some of the windows, are angled in order to make the most of the views along the harbor. Upon entering, stacked totem sculptures designed by local artisans serve as an extension of Iceland’s countryside.
Each of the 253 guest rooms has been designed as warm retreats, all of which have beds facing floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the various views of the surrounding landscape. Muted ash and grey oak serve as the base palette, while formwork concrete and custom Italian-made furniture guide the rest of the space’s design identity.
