MilkWeed: Go Green During Winter with Terrariums
As green leaves turn brown and the sky more gray than blue, it's a good time to think of saving a little summer green for the indoors via terrariums. These mini world capsules provide visual warmth and literal humidity inside when things are chilly outside. They also make good holiday gifts, but given that they are better when the plants are given a little time to establish themselves in their new home, now’s the time to start planning if you’d like to make some DIY terrarium gifts this year. Terrariums run the gamut from artistic (like the Paula Hayes one above) to straightforward; from high maintenance to no maintenance, so enjoy the choices ahead.
Edgy Interiors by Stylist Katrine Martensen-Larsen
When you see her work, you won't be surprised that stylist/designer Katrine Martensen-Larsen of KML Design is Danish, based out of Copenhagen. With white as her base, she adds bright shots of color to rooms, transforming them to light, airy, and in this case, wonderfully playful modern spaces. This Copenhagen flat is a Scandinavian riot, so to speak.
Stal Collectief Oversized Hammock
Stal Collectief is a Belgian-based design firm who recently release two new projects that include the Koala 45 hammock and the Zwol pendant lamp. I'm pretty sure I let out a shriek when I saw the massively, oversized hammock that I know I'll dream about. The group of four's covet-worthy designs will definitely make you pause and take a second glance and you'll see why.
Bathroom Ideas: 12 Tubs with Amazing Views
In an effort to fulfill your cravings for more interior design, we'll be brining you themed round ups of amazing spaces, culled from the portfolios of different designers. As the weather turns crisp (in our part of the world at least), we dream longingly of long, hot soaks in luxurious tubs that overlook the most fantastic landscapes, be it fields, mountains, forests, or oceans. Which is most appealing to you?
Stripes: Design Between the Lines
I just got my hands on a new book by Linda O'Keeffe called Stripes: Design Between the Lines. We don't talk much about books here, but I have to admit that this had me at the cover. If you love everything about parallel lines, then this book is some serious eyecandy.
Tumbleweed 3D Trellis System by h2o architectes
As soon as I hear the word 'tumbleweed' I immediately conjure up an image of a desert with those dry clusters rolling across the landscape and that's exactly the inspiration that h2o architectes had in mind when they developed their Tumbleweed project. Each cardboard component comes as a tetrahedron that you fold and connect together to form a three-dimensional volume. You can then connect as many volumes together based on how you want to use them.
The Easiest DIY Concrete Planter Ever
A few months ago, our lamp posts looked like this... and as you can see, not so nice. In fact, I called them "The Saddest Lamp Posts on the Block". We didn't have much budget to do anything fancy, but we knew we couldn't continue looking at those sad, half-falling apart brick structures any longer.
Haus am Weinberg by UNStudio
Haus am Weinberg is a minimal home located in Stuttgart, Germany, designed by UNStudio. The location of the residence was once a rural countryside which later developed into small suburban neighborhood. As a result, the house enjoys pastoral views of stepped terraces and the rolling hillside on one side, and views of the cityscape and villas on the other.
101 Hotel Reykjavik in Iceland
For this month's Destination Design we fly up and over to Iceland (not really, we wish!) for a stay at the dramatic 101 Hotel Reykjavik. Situated in the heart of the city's historic district, the sleek design is a symphony of black and white, punctuated with cozy touches like the fireplace in the lounge, and old-fashioned freestanding tubs in some guest rooms. Contemporary art, from standing and crouching nudes of slightly indiscriminate gender to misty abstract canvases, dot the public spaces, lending an almost eerie feel to the cutting-edge design. As you've probably figured out by now, we're huge fans of boutique hotels that incorporate art galleries into the experience.
Colorful Interior Design by Fawn Galli
This week's CMYLK finds us creating Colourlovers palettes all over New York City. The rooms were created by interior designer Fawn Galli, mingles the old and the new, vintage and contemporary. Although schooled in political science, following a stint at Christie's auction house in the European furniture department, Galli learned the design trade in positions at renown architecture and design firms of Robert A.M. Stern and Peter Marino. We love her style, especially the colors.
Aerial Photograph Wall Mural Made of 44,000 Golf Tees
What can you do with 44,000 golf tees? You can make one gigantic, and most impressive, wall mosaic. It took Andrea Kordos and Joe Knight of blackLAB architects inc. four months and approximately 43,964 golf tees to make this wall magic happen in their very own office. Well, that, and a lot of hammering.
Green Kit Gardening Collection by Bubble Design
The two Italian designers, Francesca Bonfrate and Alessandra Bove, that make up Bubble Design created an at-home gardening collection called Green Kit. The kit is made up of four separate components that include miniature greenhouses, climbing plant supports, and a folding surface to collect loose soil.
